　　寻寻觅觅，
　　Suffering caused by losing and being lost

　　冷冷清清，
　　Harm caused by being alone and loneliness

　　凄凄惨惨戚戚。
　　unhappy at the thought of the miseries

　　乍暖还寒时候，
　　When I am in the cold morn of autumn

　　最难将息。
　　I can’t get rid of the bad mood of the unease

　　三杯两盏淡酒，
　　How can two or three glasses of light wine

　　怎敌他、晚来风急。
　　withstand the night wind blowing with a vengeance

　　雁过也，正伤心，
　　Being grieved while wild geese flying by

　　却是旧时相识。
　　They set off in my mind an attack of homesickness

　　满地黄花堆积。
　　The chrysanthemums bloom luxuriantly

　　憔悴损，
　　And I am pining away with grief and sadness

　　如今有谁堪摘。
　　Not in the mood of picking the flowers

　　守著窗儿，
　　having nothing to do in front of the window

　　独自怎生得黑。
　　Feeling more lonely when it’s getting dark so slowly

　　梧桐更兼细雨，
　　A break of Chinese parasol and parting of sad rain

　　到黄昏
　　can cause emotional distress till one’s old and grey

　　点点滴滴。
　　The drops of the rain of sorrow are endless

　　这次第，
　　The sorrow is so deep

　　怎一个愁字了得！
　　that it seems to have cut the bowels into pieces!

　　I’m sad , weepy , and feeling low .
　　When’tis suddenly warm but remains cold ,
　　That is the time really hard to cope .
　　Two , three cups of light wine—
　　How are they to resist the assault of evening gusts ?
　　A flock of wild geese flew past ,
　　In hurts to hear them cry , though we’re old acquaintances .

　　Chrysanthemums lie about in piles .
　　They are now withered and which ones are worth picking ?
　　Alone by the casemeng ,
　　How am I to bear the darkness ?
　　Add to this , the parasol trees and a thin rain falling .
　　By dusk time ,
　　The dripping became incessant .
　　Steeped in a mood susch as this,
　　To say I am sad is woefully inadequate .
