在数千年的进程中，不同的地域和文化造就了极为不同的宗教。耶稣、穆罕默德、佛陀和其他圣人创建了延续至今的丰富的宗教传统。宗教以不同的形式伴随着人类历史，为文学、建筑、音乐和绘画带来灵感。
今天，我们每个人都强烈地感受到了以下两个事实，这两个事实比起大概三四十年前要明显得多：首先，在全球范围内，宗教并没有成为过去，它一直都处于现在。其次，存在着一种人类的宗教遗产，我们是这一遗产的继承者，无法对它漠不关心。它开始形成于大约9万年前，那时我们的远祖已经会给死去的人举行葬礼：动物是绝对不会这样做的。有意识地埋葬死者表明人类改变了对尸体和死亡的态度。

In the past several thousand years,various regions and cultures shaped diverse religions. Jesus,Mohammed,Buddha and other saints established numerous religions which have continued right up until the present day. Religions have been accompanying human history in various manners, bringing inspirations to literature,architecture,music and painting art.

Today,everyone of us strongly feels the following facts, which are more apparent than they were 3 or 4 decades ago.First, on a worldwide basis, religion has not become history;instead, it has always been at present.Second,there exists a human religious heritage,to which we are the heirs and which we cannot afford to disregard.It took shape some 90 thousand years ago when our ancestors had already learned to conduct funeral for the deceased, a practice that animals would never learn to perform. The activity of consciously burying the deceased indicates that human beings have changed their attitudes towards corpse and death.
