All testing and inspection instruments will be properly calibrated and maintained in good
working conditions.
Prior to using compressed air, the quality of the air shall be tested in accordance with ASTM
D 4285. The test shall be performed at the beginning of each shift and at approximately four-
hour intervals. The test also shall he made after any interruption of the air compressor
operation.
Relative huroidity shall be determined using s Hygrometer. Readings will be taken at the
start of work and approximately every four hours. Atteroattvely, continuous monitoring shall
be performed using systems established and/or accepted by buyer. The substrate
temperature shall be at least 5°F above the dew point. Surface temperature and humidity
readings shall be taken prior to surface prep and application of each coat. The work shall not
proceed if the ambient temperature parameters are outside the requirements of this
specification. If more stringent, the coating Manufacturer's requirements shall dictate. The
substrate temperature shall be at least 5°F (3°C} above the dew point temperature.
Blast cleaned surfaces shall be compared witn SSPC-Vis 1-89, Visuat Standards, The anchor pattern profile depth shall be verified in accordance with ASTM D4417 - method 'A'.
Grit used for abrasive cleaning will be tested for the presence of oil by immersing in water
and checking for oil flotation. Tests shall be made when each new batch is received. If oil is
evident, contaminated abrasive shall be replaced with clean abrasive and retestad before
proceeding. All steel blasted since the test satisfactory test shall be re-blasted,
the coating shell be viually inspected for defects such as over spray, runs, sags, voids,
blistering, peeling, rusting, mud cracking, inadequale cure, and lack of adhesion.
