It's good to hear that you are staying in China for the dragon boat festival. As a friend of yours, I would love to tell you all the Chinese traditions about this festival.
The Dragon Boat Festival is celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth month according to the Chinese calendar. It is to pay tribute to Qu Yuan, who drowned himself with a heavy stone in Miluo River. Nowadays, people make rice dumplings, or what we called 'zongzi' to prevent fishes from eating Qu Yuan's body in the river. Other than the cuisine, we'll also race dragon boats,and it slowly transforming to a kind of sports nowadays.
